Living in a large military based area, I have shot my fair share of military homecomings. From large ships to fly-ins, to commercial airport homecomings to reuniting at my client’s home. I have done it all.
There is something so special about being able to capture those first moments of a family reuniting after many months apart. The first hugs. The first kiss. The first squeals from the littles.
Last month I shot three homecomings and each one was so special in its own way. First up, was the “D” family. They have been clients of mine for a couple years now. I have shot family sessions, a homecoming at their home, maternity, newborn session and me and Tara even connected as friends and have hung at a race, the gym and I seriously just adore her. She is one rockstar of a mom. Holds it down while her husband is deployed with three little ones, still manages to train for races, work for a non-profit organization that focuses on kids with running and everything in between. I loved being able to capture her and her children her reuniting with her husband after eight months apart.
Shooting a fly-in homecoming is always something special. The jets fly in formation when coming in and there is a quiet but exciting fill in the air as loved ones get closer to American soil and they get to hug and love on them. It’s a one of the kind feeling and I don’t think there has ever been a homecoming where I did not cry behind my camera.
Thank you “D” family for allowing me into your lives to capture these special moments for you. I adore all of you!
