Oh how I love a homecoming. And how I love a homecoming right around the holidays! Last month I photographed this sweet fly in of this family reuniting after seven months apart!
Deployments are tough, you guys. Tough on us as mamas, ..or dads. Tough on our littles. Tough on the spouse deployed. We get into a rhythm and it becomes the new normal, but it is never easy.
I absolutely adore shooting the reuniting of a family. And the fly-in homecoming (which always comes in a day or two before the ship) are so small and intimate, I feel blessed for being able to be a Virginia Beach military homecoming photographer! I get to bottle up that special moment of a family seeing each other for the first time after many months apart. It’s all the feels, you guys.
On this particular day, the weather was less than great, which meant the way the planes flew in was different than they normally would. Typically they all fly in on formation. It is so awesome to see and really has this feeling about it. But because Mother Nature was not on our side that day, they all flew in slow…and separate…. which made the waiting process much more agonizing. But all so worth the wait.
I love those initial first hugs and squeals. The tears and smiles and nervous giggles. These little girls (and Mama!) were so excited to have Dad home. As he was ecstatic (and a little choked up) to see them.
Through my tears and lens of my camera I captured the reunion of this family. Scroll down to see the sweetness that was captured and remember how much these men and women sacrifice for our country. I know I appreciate it everyday.
