There are so many emotions that go into capturing a military homecoming. When I first get the inquiry, I immediately feel this bond with the spouse who has contacted me. I get it. I understand what you are going through. I know how important that moment will be for you and your family to have your other half come home after 6, 7, 9 months…. sometimes even a year and how special it is to have it captured! You are not alone. All those feelings you have during deployment, I GET IT!
I feel so blessed, I tend to get A LOT of inquiries for homecomings. I book out months in advance for them, usually before the spouse has even left for deployment. So over time I get to become pretty friendly with the military spouses through the deployment. We have emails back and forth all the time about time changes (because they seriously change up until the day of), outfits ideas, sign ideas, meeting spots and those “business” emails change into emails about how much we miss our spouses to how the kids are doing and so forth and so on. That by the time I actually meet my client in person, I feel like I have known them forever.
It’s a sweet little gig I got going here and us military wifey’s are all in this together! Whether your husband has been deployed once or eleven times, or you are a Navy wife and I am an Air Force wife…we just get it. And I am THRILLED to capture this time for you.
I was so excited to finally meet this sweet mama and her two year old after months of communicating! It was POURING rain the morning of her husband’s homecoming. Because isn’t irony grand? An umbrella was pretty much useless. Her sweet little daughter was over the rain and we all stayed huddled together on pier awaiting to see the arrival of his ship for a couple hours because it was a little late (totally typical). It’s the sweetest feeling though watching a Navy ship come in and seeing all the sailors on top pulling into pier. It makes all the moments waiting… worth it. But that final moment when you see a family reunite after many, many months…it really is ALL. THE. FEELS.
So thankful for this job of mine. So thankful to be a part of such an amazing community. So thankful to all these men and women who choose to protect our country.
And oh so thankful for those who choose me to capture these moments.
Sharing with you one of the sweetest homecomings to date. This little girl was SO excited to see her Daddy. She couldn’t stop squealing and squeezing him. All happy tears, friends, all happy tears.
