I am a creature of habit. I like routine. I like a schedule. I schedule my personal stuff and business appointments in a paper day planner in addition to my ICal. With that being said, I am huge on traditions and keeping memories going year after year. I want this for my children. I want this for me.
I want them to look back and remember things we used to do year after year. The normal stuff. Summer days at the beach. Pumpkin picking in the fall. Christmas tree decorating day. Corn beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day (because let’s be real, I’m not cooking that any of the other 364 days of the year). It’s small things really, and things most families do, but I tend to make a big deal out of it. And that’s ok.
I know them as children now, LOVE this stuff. And I know when they become teenagers, it won’t be the same and they will roll their eyes at this stuff, but I also know when they are in their 30s and about to turn 35 (clears throat), they will look back and adore traditions and what those memories hold for them.
Today was pumpkin picking day. A tradition Mike and I have been doing since before we had kids and were just dating. We headed out to Pungo to Flanagan Farm for a morning of pumpkin picking, corn mazes and lunch at Blue Pete’s (a little hidden gem).
Flanagan Farm is great. If you are looking for a place in VB to pick, check them out! A wagon ride, that the kids loved, to the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkins, followed by a corn maze that took us longer than we thought.
Maybe it sounds silly, but I truly enjoy watching my little peeps in their element and how life is through their eyes. So simple and everything fun. Isn’t that how life should always be? No stress. No deadlines. No bills. No wondering what’s next. Just simplicity. Something so simple as picking out pumpkins with mom and dad is what resulted in bright smiles, giggles and another memory to be tucked away.
Sharing our simple tradition with you this morning…I hope you all made some simple memories with your loves this weekend as well! (Pictures not shown…morning whining about getting ready, car ride teasing and 4 year old diva meltdowns ; )
The wagon ride was about a 5 minute drive down to the other side of the farm. We went when they first opened on Sunday (10AM) and had the whole wagon and pumpkin patch to ourselves!
Only real dads carry the pumpkins….and his 4 year old’s Sofia the First purse.
Corn mazes. Not as easy as you think.
